This article reports that politics trumped glamour as America invaded the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. What does it take to shock Quentin Tarantino? As the gonzo director of "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill" presided over the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, many of us expected him to award the Palme d' Or to some kick-ass movie about cruel vengeance and wanton bloodshed. But we didn't expect that would be a documentary about President George W. Bush and the war in Iraq. Old Boy won the second-place Grand Prix. But, shocking many serious cinephiles, Tarantino's jury awarded the Palme d' Or to a real-life tale of fear and loathing, Michael Moore's documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11"--in which we see a blank-eyed Bush reading My Pet Goat to schoolchildren for seven long minutes after being informed of the second plane hitting the World Trade Center.
