    • Abstract:
The article critically analyses the causes of poverty in Iran with reference to several studies. The author discusses several reasons of poverty including prostitution, high unemployment, and international sanctions against the Islamic regime. The study also questions whether the international sanctions against the Islamic regime could possibly be a cause of poverty. According to the Mehr News Agency, 11 million people equal to 14 percent of the population were living below the poverty line.
