The article argues that conventional perceptions of the militaries in Arab Spring episodes create an analytical blind spot in that they disguise a severely understudied empirical phenomenon. It informs that Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) deposed Hosni Mubarak an Vice President Omar Suleiman in the final twist of what would come to be narrated as the "25th January Revolution." It studies episodes of popular mass mobilization as catalysts of military insubordination. It mentions characteristics of civil‐military relations in authoritarian regimes.
