    • Abstract:
The article focuses on World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia which was considered a triumph for the Catholic Church and its 81-year-old head, Pope Benedict XVI. As evidence of the stunning response of young people, it was noted that about 125,000 pilgrims made their way from across the world, despite increased airfares and the immense distance that isolates Australia from Europe and the U.S. This event was planned by the Vatican and Cardinal George Pell, archbishop of Sydney, as a catechesis, a festival of Catholic culture, teaching and prayer.
