    • Abstract:
The article investigates the use of an expanded Word Association Test for detecting psychological deficit associated with brain damage. It also investigates the usefulness of the repetition tendency, and a variety of other response characteristics, for discriminating between groups of brain-damaged patients, psychiatric patients without brain damage, and Ss selected from a non-psychiatric population without brain damage. The word list approximates and includes words known to have strong emotional connotations. A subsidiary purpose of this study was to check the reliability of the finding of no difference between brain damaged and non-brain damaged Ss on the reproduction trial.
