    • Abstract:
The author comments on a discussion of Oden Stark's "New Economic of Labor Migration," published in a previous issue. He states that risk reduction and altruism seem to be rather poor descriptors of the dynamics found in Mexican family migrations when the marriage bargain is incorporated into the analysis. He suggests that migration decisions are often taken by the husband alone, rather than being a decision made by the family. He mentions that there is substantial evidence that Mexican women frequently migrate to the U.S. without the approval of their parents and husbands.
