- Abstract: The article presents criticism of the film "Elephant," directed by Gus Van Sant. Particular attention is given to an analysis of ways in which the motion picture shares elements of the horror film genre and its representation of themes such as discomfort, alienation, and apathy. The psychological impact of the content on the viewing audience is examined and its depiction of school shootings, based on Colorado's Columbine High School massacre, is described.
