    • Abstract:
The grandmother they called Abuela, Mr. and Mrs. Flores, Rosica, and her two older brothers. In part 1, Rosica tells the story of how she and her family moved from Mexico to North Carolina to join her father, who works as a roofer and has been sending home money. Now I was wearing Rosica's pajamas, sleeping in Mr. and Mrs. Flores's bed, and knew the story of how Abuela and Abuelo began their courtship. I'm not sure how Mom responded to Mrs. Flores's speech because as they spoke Rosica motioned me into the kitchen, where Abuela was making coffee to go with the cheesecake slices.
