- Abstract: The article discusses the Chinese American Wong Kim Ark's efforts to establish legal citizenship for Chinese in the U.S. through citing the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment, within the context of anti-Chinese sentiment and violence against Chinese in California during the late 19th century. An overview of the U.S. Supreme Court case "United States v. Wong Kim Ark," including the 1898 judicial decision finding that U.S. is acquired through birth, is provided.
