The author discusses the need to address gender-based violence in global health fieldwork where there is insufficient data as of 2019. She cites two personal sexual assault experiences in Guatemala, and questions raised on her ability as a fieldworker and not on the work's merits, and observes that within a system of symbolic violence, inequalities are taken to be inherent. The author also notes the difficult inclusion of one's own rights alongside the communities' rights that one works for.
