    • Abstract:
This article presents information about the book "The Magic Barrel," by Bernard Malamud. This book is a collection of short stories. A few stories soar in a world of fantasy where anything might happen. There is nothing poetic about Malamud's prose and yet he achieves lyricism through the wide-ranging play of his imagination, the richness of his emotion, and the intricacy of his perceptions. None of the characters in the story "The Magic Barrel" is quite what he seems to be, the supernatural is constantly hinted at and one finds that Malamud's deceptively effortless and colloquial style is capable of sustaining an allegory of complexity and depth.
