    • Abstract:
This article highlights the importance that the cult of St. Michael the Archangel has assumed in Sardinia, starting from the Byzantine age, not only as a protector of the Eastern Roman Empire but also as a healer and a defender of souls against Satan. Hence its diffusion either in strategic and border areas - as is the case of Ghilarza, Aritzo, Esterzili, and other places near to rivers, such as Silì - or for the curative value that was ascribed to them and for being at the centre of ways of communications and commercial traffic. The relevance of this cult is also confirmed by the fact that in different areas of middle and central Sardinia the cult itself gives its name to the month of October as well as to a specific time of the year, named istiu de Santu Miali, i.e. "St. Michael's summer". • Abstract:
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
