The article outlines five new policy initiatives that can help advance a variety of civic engagement opportunities for older Americans in the U.S. They include Experience Fellows program, the Reverse GI Bill which established the basic concept of rewarding service with educational opportunity, Troops to Teachers program, Organizational Innovation Fund, and the Blue Ribbon Commission to evaluate, report and recommend. The key characteristics of the proposed policies are discussed, including the support for innovation and experimentation by individuals and organizations, attract the broadest range of participants, expand the older adult volunteering, and draw support from leaders across the ideological spectrum.
