    • Abstract:
This article focuses on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that slows brain activity. Topics discussed include how GABA chemically differs from such neurotransmitters as serotonin and dopamine, the link of GABA deficit to disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia, and the availability of GABA as a dietary supplement. Mentioned also are how GABA behaves during fetal development and after birth, and the plants which contain GABA, including tomatoes.
