      The article reviews the upbringing and career development of astronomer Carl Sagan. The author reviews how Sagan, as one of the most popular science fiction writers of the twentieth century, helped popularize the study of science, and specialized in exobiology and astronomy. Carl Edward Sagan was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 9, 1934. His parents, Rachel and Samuel Sagan, were liberal Democrats whose politics and interest in education influenced him greatly. Sagan had one sibling, a sister named Carol. Despite his early success with experimental science, Sagan became attracted to theoretical science when he realized that astronomy and the study of extraterrestrials would be based on observation and speculation, not experimentation. According to the author, he resolved to dedicate his academic and professional life to learning more about the universe. Sagan's development of exobiology or the study of extraterrestrial life is also is also reviewed.
