    • Abstract:
This article focuses on the presentation of talk-show host Chuck Harder. He seats his bulk before the mike and adjusts his headset it's time for Harder's own act-- one of the most unusual and successful in a different kind of circus, the national talk-radio racket. Harder's tone is professorial, playfully inquisitive, giving his daily three-hour, coast-to-coast "For the People" radio show the atmosphere of a college seminar aimed at saving the U.S. Even more impressive, by coloring his programming with a blue-collar economic nationalism that defends unions, tariffs and taxes, that idealizes a Norman Rockwellian past when a factory wage could support a family of four, Harder has built more than an audience; he's created a national organization with thousands of fervently loyal supporters.
