    • Abstract:
This article considers the social and economic impact of economic growth. The article claims that economic growth has become todays' new opium of the people as religion was during the time of Karl Marx. It argues that growth has become an addiction. According to the author, the planet itself has become the ultimate sacrificial victim for economic growth. The author observes that many people, particularly politicians, are profoundly worried by the environmental and social impact of continuous growth but few of them challenge the orthodoxies of development and progress head-on.
