The article highlights the effectivity of using artifacts in teaching history. A teacher can set a stage for a cross-cultural project by grouping students and giving them an artifact together with a picture book containing information on about the artifact they are holding. In this setting, the educator integrated reading, writing and social studies. Students will be more comfortable to try new activities and to take risks with reading, writing and sharing of their ideas. The interactive setting of the classroom also allows student to negotiate, evaluate, and transform the knowledge they acquire.
