    • Abstract:
The article discusses the extraction of DNA from two well preserved fossils of Neanderthals. The DNA was taken from a cell nucleus and sequenced, revealing much about our relationship with them. Neanderthals lived in a population of about 3,000 and our split from them began about 600,000 years ago, compared to six million with chimps. Other characteristics we share with them are presented.
