    • Abstract:
The article presents information on the term beur, in relation to the film industry. The term beur, initially invented in the early 1980s by a new, assertive ethnic minority to protest its treatment by the white French majority, has proved to be a problematic label. The term beur cinema was first coined in the mid-1980s to describe a series of films addressing the problems of identity and integration facing second-generation immigrants of Maghrebi descent in France.
