- Abstract: The article focuses on the mythology and history of Fraser Island. It talks about the Aboriginal myth of the creation of the world and on the creation of Fraser Island. It comments on the shipwrecking of the Stirling Castle in 1836, commanded by Captain James Fraser, and of his wife, crew, and passengers being castaways on Fraser Island where many of them died. It talks about the rescue of Eliza Fraser and how her stories inspired painter Sidney Nolan to visit the island and paint its landscape.
