When asked about the reason behind the efforts of upgrading older diesels, Heilig said that their goal is to improve the performance and capabilities of older locomotives. Heilig informs that Norfolk Southern distributed power can operate longer and heavier trains with increased productivity. He discusses the advantages of Electronically Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) brakes.
