      The article focuses on the book "Divided Memory: The Nazi Past in the Two Germanys," by Jeffrey Herf. Herf persuasively argues in the book, that postwar German confrontations with the country's Nazi past have not always been so persistent and widespread, and they certainly have never been as established in official German political discourse as they are today. To be sure, the near forty-five years that separate the Nazi defeat from the fall of the Berlin wall span a highly charged history of divergent strategies and traditions.
