Antropología de la frontera, la migración y los procesos transnacionales.

In recent years, the existence of transnational processes have called into question the basis for traditional anthropology and have outlined the foundations of a so-called transnational anthropology. Without a doubt, studies done from a variety of perspectives in the social sciences have demonstrated how the Mexico-US border constitutes a social field of an international character, which challenges the supposedly impassable quality of borders. Through a detailed analysis of migratory trends, these studies have soundly refuted the idea of the border as a simple geographic-political referent, and they have proposed viewing it as a de-territorialized locale. In that respect, this article reviews some of the central arguments in the studies on the borderlands, migration, and transnational processes that have been particularly influential in anthropology. The article also points out some of the gaps that the new anthropology has yet to fill. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

En los últimos años, los procesos transnacionales han venido a cuestionar las bases de la antropología tradicional y han lineado los cimientos de la llamada antropología transnacional o transnacionalista. Sin lugar a dudas, los estudios realizados desde las distintas perspectivas de las ciencias sociales han demostrado cómo la frontera México-Estados Unidos constituye un campo social de carácter global, que cuestiona la supuesta naturaleza infranqueable de las líneas fronterizas. A través del análisis puntual de las tendencias migratorias, estos estudios han refutado contundentemente la idea de frontera como referente simplemente geográfico-político y han propuesto su visualización como escenario deterritorializado. En este sentido, el presente trabajo revias algunos planteamientos centrales de los estudios sobre fronteras, migración y procesos transnacionales que han cobrado influencia particular en la antropología y señala algunos vacíos que el discurso de la nueva antropología aún posee.
