- Abstract: The norteña music, known to be the one who characterize fundamentally the Norwest of the Mexican Republic, it is one of the integral elements of the national identity. Their songs, rhythms, instruments, spaces and practices form part of the tradition that identifies a geografic region. From the Mexican Independence it has tried to build and homogenize a “national” identity, at which it has been provided of significations that tend to “erase” the particularities of the regions. With the national or local identity exists the gender identity, also constructed historically. In the second half of the XX century, the growth of the media allowed that this identities permeate in the social imaginary. From above we ask, what types of generic identities for men and women the popular Mexican music known as the northern music propose? When we put in game the category of northern music with the one of gender, we consider, it could reveal some of the mechanism from which, culturally, are reproduce the speeches that tend to perpetuate a cultural system. We propose that the Mexican Norteña music tends not only to reproduce but also to exacerbate the traditional prototypes of male and submissive woman. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
- Abstract: La música norteña, entendida como aquella que caracteriza fundamentalmente al nororiente de la República Mexicana, es uno de los elementos integrantes de la identidad nacional. Sus canciones, ritmos, instrumentos, espacios y prácticas forman parte de una tradición que identifica una región geográfica. A partir de la Independencia de México se ha tratado de construir y homogenizar una identidad “nacional”, a la cual se le ha dotado de significaciones que tienden a “borrar” las particularidades de las regiones. Junto con la identidad nacional o local existe la identidad de género, también construida históricamente. En la segunda mitad del siglo XX, el crecimiento de los medios de comunicación permitió que estas identidades permearan en el imaginario social. A partir de lo anterior preguntamos ¿Qué tipos de identidades genéricas para hombres y mujeres propone la música popular mexicana conocida como música norteña? Cuando ponemos en juego la categoría música norteña con la de género, consideramos, se podrían revelar algunos de los mecanismos a través de los cuales, culturalmente, se reproducen los discursos que tienden a perpetuar un sistema cultural. Proponemos que la música norteña mexicana tiende no sólo a reproducir sino incluso a exacerbar los prototipos tradicionales de hombre macho y mujer sumisa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
