- Abstract: To analyze the association between excess weight, eating habits and physical activity. Cross-sectional study with a representative sample (n = 571) students (8-10 years) from Agreste Alagoano, Brazil. Eating behavior was evaluated by QUADA, physical activity by QUAFDA, both questionnaires were validated for this age group. Data were analyzed using gross and adjusted logistic regression. The prevalence of overweight was 26.3%. There was a significant and positive association between excess weight and consumption of vegetables in regular education, however in teaching full-time association was with the consumption of soft drinks. In the adjusted analysis we found that the regular education students who did not meet the recommendations for the consumption of vegetables were more likely to be overweight (IC95%: 1,77-7,73). Already in full time students, insufficiently active were three times more likely to have overweight (IC95%: 1,07-10,12). Excess weight was associated with feeding behavior in the two kinds of teaching and significant association was found in the level of physical activity in full-time education students.
