    • Abstract:
The formation of Las "Buenas Amigas" in 1980s offers an opportunity to address the invisibility of the intellectual production on Latina lesbians. Questions that arose at that time are still relevant: What is a lesbian? What do people say about them? What are their stories? How can we talk about lesbians outside the parameters of oppression? I locate Las "Buenas Amigas", the first organization of Latina lesbians in New York City, in a dialogue with the contexts of those times as well as those of the present. I look at those contexts through the histories of the eight lesbians that met in 1986 to create a group that would name them, a space from which they could see each other beyond racist, patriarchal, nationalist, heterosexist, classist and corporal canons.
