Médor, Ducange. The Currency of Meta-narrations (or of Utopias). In Homage to Alfonso Ibáñez. In the frst part of this article, I briefy discuss some of Alfonso Ibáñez's ideas about the importance of utopias in the so- cio-political panorama of Latin America. Alfonso was highly engaged in the philosophical and political defense of the importance of meta-narrations for our bruised and sufering nations. And in the second part, I indulge in an exercise of the imagination in order to envisage how Ibáñez might have regarded two of today's most important utopias: universal basic income and workday reduction. Together, they seem to have the potential to show the way to overcoming situations that threaten both human life and the sustainability of the planet. This gives reason to maintain, as I do, that Ibáñez would have been enthusiastic about these utopias, while of course enriching them with the visions of Latin America's original peoples. En la primera parte de este artículo expongo brevemente algunas de las ideas de Alfonso Ibáñez en torno a la importancia de las utopías en el panorama sociopolítico de América Latina. Alfonso estaba muy ocupado en defender flosófca y políticamente la importancia de las meta-narraciones para nuestras dolidas y dolientes naciones. En la segunda opero un ejercicio de imaginación para pensar cómo habría recibido Ibáñez dos importantes utopías actuales: la renta básica incondicional y la reducción de la jornada de trabajo. Juntas, parecen tener la potencialidad de abrir camino a la superación de las situaciones más amenazantes y destructoras para la vida humana y la sostenibilidad del planeta. De ahí que hay razón para sostener, como lo hago, que Ibáñez se habría entusiasmado con esas utopías enriqueciéndolas, claro está, con las visiones de los pueblos originarios de América Latina.
