    • Abstract:
This article considers the historical uses of various forms of energy, particularly wood, oil, and electricity, in Mexico from the early colonial period through the 20th century. It examines the influence of the Mexican Revolution from 1910-1920 on energy use in the country, during which technological advances were made. The author traces the history of energy use from the colonial period when wood represented the primary source of energy. The transition from wood to petroleum-based energy resources and eventually hydroelectricity, as well as the social conflicts and environmental movements that came with these changes, are also addressed.
