Jonathan Edwards is among the great Christian thinkers in history. His concepts, resulting from a lifetime of study and reflection, deserve the careful consideration of every Christian. This article intends to offer a brief analysis of his though on human will. Edwards' main objective in his writings dealing with this subject was to refute Arminianism and its defense of free will, which was gaining strength in the evangelical circles of that time. Edwards did this from the perspective of Reformed orthodoxy, but he also dialogued with some philosophical principles then flourishing. Such approach is laudable and certainly necessary today for those who want to be relevant to their generation. The article presents Edwards' main arguments in two of his works, The Freedom of the Will and Original Sin. It also surveys the main controversies that even in our day revolve around the theologian's thought on will: whether his reflection on the theme is compatible with that of the first reformers and whether the Edwardsean propositions make God the author of sin. We conclude that, despite some unsolved issues in Edwards' thought, his reasoning on human will are necessary in our time, when many church members have biblically mistaken concepts about will and freedom. Jonathan Edwards se posiciona entre os grandes pensadores cristãos da história. Suas postulações, fruto de uma vida de estudo e reflexão, são sem dúvida leitura essencial para qualquer cristão. Este artigo propõe-se a, de maneira sucinta, fazer uma análise do pensamento de Edwards sobre a vontade humana. Veremos que o principal objetivo de Edwards em seus escritos que abordaram esse tema foi apresentar uma refutação ao arminianismo e sua defesa do livre--arbítrio, que já ganhava força no meio evangélico da época. Poderemos observar que Edwards o fez a partir da ortodoxia reformada, mas dialogando com alguns princípios filosóficos que vicejavam em seu tempo. Esta postura de Edwards é louvável e cremos ser indispensável mesmo hoje para quem deseja ter alguma relevância para a sua geração. Apresentaremos os principais argumentos de Edwards a partir principalmente de duas de suas obras: The Freedom of the Will e Original Sin. Também procuraremos salientar as principais controvérsias que perduram ainda hoje sobre o pensamento de Edwards acerca da vontade: se o pensamento de Edwards sobre este tema é compatível com o dos primeiros reformadores e se Edwards com suas proposições torna Deus o autor do pecado. Concluímos que, não obstante algumas questões aparentemente sem resposta no pensamento de Edwards, suas ponderações sobre a vontade humana são necessárias para o nosso tempo, no qual muitos dos membros de nossas igrejas têm conceitos biblicamente equivocados sobre vontade e liberdade.
