New Muse and the Gibbes Museum of Art present: NOW LET ME FLY

Bees Ferry West Ashley Library
NOW LET ME FLY: Songs of Freedom and Transformation
Music can be a universal expression of protest and a powerful agent of change. In this concert, it gives voice to the heroic figures portrayed by William H. Johnson in the exhibit, Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice. Listen for hidden messages in songs of the Underground Railroad, hear new songs of freedom and transformation, and lift your own voice in call and response.
Featuring:
Alva Anderson, voice
LaToya Reneá, voice, percussion, guitar + piano
Program includes:
Redemption Song, Bob Marley
Now Let Me Fly, Traditional
Underground Railroad (lyrics by Alva Anderson and LaToya Reneá), John Coltrane
All program attendees will be entered into a drawing for tickets to the Gibbes Museum of Art. This program is sponsored by Art Bridges and presented in partnership with New Muse Concerts and the Gibbes Museum of Art, in promotion of the William H. Johnson exhibit, on display now through August 7, 2022.
