Librarian / Assistant Branch Manager / Adult Services Manager / Hurd/St. Andrews
Full-time position for an energetic, team-oriented librarian who will demonstrate exceptional customer service as an example for all staff and build a positive team spirit within the branch. Must be comfortable proactively seeking out customers of all ages to offer assistance in all areas of the library (desk, roving, email, phone, and/or additional methods of communication).
As the Assistant Branch Manager, this position is responsible for the operations of the library in the absence of the Branch Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing staff schedules; compiling branch’s monthly list of programs for publicity; compiling statistical branch reports and documentation; assisting the branch manager with preparing, reviewing and submitting payroll timesheets, and with annual performance evaluations; representing the library in community outreach events; and enforcing all library policies and procedures.
As the Adult Services Manager, this position must be able to work independently to ensure the successful operation of the branch’s adult and young adult departments. Adult services will also include managing the Meeting rooms. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing the staff, including scheduling; managing adult programming; overseeing young adult programming; answering general information questions; assisting patrons with readers advisory; assisting patrons with computer and internet-related questions and research; and attending library-wide monthly Adult Services meetings.
This position requires broad knowledge and competency of bibliographic tools and sources, library methods, procedures, principles and practices, and emerging technology. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, customer-focused and possess excellent oral and written communication skills; must have the ability to work well with people in a group and individual settings. Must have the ability to follow established procedures and to perform work requiring considerable detail and carry out assignments independently. Must have the ability to take initiative in making suggestions for the library’s services and collections improvements. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operations. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree and two (2) years post MLS/MLIS experience to include one (1) year supervisory experience. Prefer public library experience. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technical advances. Experience with SIRSI ILS preferred. Must use tact, courtesy and good judgement when communicating with co-workers and the public. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Must have stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, and bending. Must be able to lift library materials including books, AV equipment, program materials and maneuver loaded book carts weighing approximately 50 to 100 pounds. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus.
Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification.
Hiring Salary Range: $54,017.60 - $60,840.00 annually commensurate with education and experience.
