Full time position available for an energetic, team-oriented individual who enjoys providing library services for children age’s birth through grade 5. Provides basic reference and reader’s advisory services. Responsible for providing quality children’s programming, which includes, but is not limited to story times, puppet shows, storytelling, crafts, school age, afterschool and outreach. Must be creative, artistic, enthusiastic and innovative. Maintains the department’s early literacy interactive station and assigned displays. Coordinates and distributes outgoing materials for the system, including summer reading supplies. Candidates should be good listeners and communicators, present an up‐beat, cheerful attitude, enjoy working cooperatively as a team member and place top priority on customer service. Maintains appearance of Children’s Department, including organizing materials, straightening furniture and cleaning toys. Shelves library materials as needed. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed to meet the coverage needs of the public service desks in other departments. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate or GED equivalent and one (1) year of library or related experience and excellent customer service skills, ability to work with children of varied backgrounds and ages. Knowledge of children’s literature and materials required. Must use tact, courtesy and good judgement when communicating with co-workers and the public. Ability to work with children of varied backgrounds and ages. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technical advances. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and sitting. Ability to shelve library materials as needed. Must be able to lift library materials including books, AV equipment, program materials and maneuver loaded book carts weighing approximately fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds. Prior library experience helpful but not necessary. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.

Hiring Salary Range: $24,710.40 - $27,830.40 annually depending on qualifications.
