Full time position available for an energetic, team-oriented individual who enjoys providing library services for children from birth through grade 5. Provides reference and reader’s advisory services. Responsible for providing quality children’s programming, which includes, but is not limited to story times, puppet shows, storytelling, crafts, school age, afterschool and outreach. Must be creative, artistic, enthusiastic and innovative. Maintains the department’s early literacy area and displays. Candidates should be good listeners and communicators, present an up‐beat, cheerful attitude, enjoy working cooperatively as a team member and place top priority on customer service. Maintains appearance of Children’s Department, including organizing materials, straightening furniture and cleaning toys. Shelves library materials as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Desirable qualifications include experience in children’s programming and outreach and knowledge of child development and early literacy skills. Must be comfortable proactively seeking out patrons to offer assistance in all areas of the library, including at a public service desk, while roving or via e-mail, phone or additional methods of communication. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed to meet the coverage needs of the public service desks in other departments.

Bilingual skills appreciated.

REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate or GED equivalent and two (2) years of library or related experience and excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of children’s literature and materials and the ability to work with children of varied backgrounds and ages. Must use tact, courtesy and good judgement when communicating with co-workers and the public. Ability to work with children of varied backgrounds and ages. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technical advances. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and sitting. Ability to shelve library materials as needed. Must be able to lift library materials including books, AV equipment, program materials and maneuver loaded book carts weighing approximately fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds.

Hiring salary range: $27,684.80 - $31,200.00 annually depending on qualifications.
