Full-time position for an energetic, team-oriented individual with customer service experience. Assists Children’s Department staff with programs including story time and summer reading. Maintains appearance of Children’s Department, including organizing materials, straightening furniture and cleaning toys. Shelves library materials as needed. Other duties may include conducting story times for children birth through age five (5), preparing and conducting crafts and performing puppet shows. Performs library clerical functions, assists children and caregivers in use of library resources and provides reference and reader’s advisory services. Desirable qualifications include experience in Children’s programming and outreach and knowledge of child development, early literacy skills and Children’s literature. Must be comfortable proactively seeking out patrons to offer assistance in all areas of the library (desk, roving, e-mail, phone or additional methods of communication). Candidates should be good listeners and communicators, present an upbeat, cheerful attitude, enjoy working cooperatively as a team member and place top priority on customer service. Assist with Community Hub Services, such as, the rental assistant program, vaccine clinics, voting process, as well as, other programs and services that are provided by CCPL. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed to meet the coverage needs of the public service desks in other departments. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years library experience; Associate Degree and five (5) years library experience; or high school graduate and eight (8) years library experience; supervisory and public library experience preferred. Ability to work with children of varied backgrounds and ages. Knowledge of Children’s literature and materials required. Must use tact, courtesy and good judgement when communicating with co-workers and the public. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technical advances. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and sitting. Ability to shelve library materials as needed. Must be able to lift library materials including books, AV equipment, program materials and maneuver loaded book carts weighing approximately fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.

Hiring Salary Range: $35,692.80 - $40,227.20 annually commensurate with education and experience.
