The Charleston County Public Library will soon be opening the first of five new branches over the next couple of years. Due to overwhelming public support, a referendum for $108 million passed to fund the new libraries and renovate existing branches. This position is a great opportunity to be part of our growing team, with the possibility of moving up in the organization.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, shelving library materials, basic maintenance of the collections and premises, occasionally performing minor clerical tasks and other duties as assigned. Incumbents may provide directions to patrons and be asked to perform physical tasks to support library programs or procedures. This position requires no prior library experience.

Requirements: Must have good oral and written communication skills and the ability to understand and carry out instructions. Must be courteous, use good judgement and demonstrate attention to detail. Must have the ability to sort materials in alphabetic and/or numeric order, lift objects such as books weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds, and/or pushing book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. Must have the stamina for long periods of walking, standing, reaching, bending, stooping and kneeling. Minimum age is sixteen (16) years old.

Salary: $8.00 per hour and the ability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
