Full-time position for an energetic, team-orientated individual with customer service experience and a strong creative background to coordinate Maker Space studio. Duties include:

  • Assisting library customers with using the Library’s Maker Space resources and equipment, for example: 3-D printers, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, as well as low-tech tools.
  • Planning and conducting Maker Space programming, independently and in partnership with other library departments.
  • Ordering supplies for Maker Space.
  • Keeping informed of trends and issues in the maker community.
  • Serving as a resource for the maker community and staff system-wide.
  • Promoting maker resources and services in branch libraries and community locations.

In addition, this team member will work within the Adult Services Department, assisting with reference questions, planning and implementing in-branch and outreach programs, providing technology assistance and demonstrations, performing routine service duties under professional supervision, and carrying out procedures set by supervisory staff to helps patrons locate and check out materials. Basic clerical and general office work. Must be comfortable proactively seeking out patrons to offer assistance in all areas of the library (desk, roving, e-mail, phone or additional methods of communication). Candidates should be good listeners and communicators, present an up-beat, cheerful attitude, enjoy working cooperatively as a team member and place top priority on customer service. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed to meet the coverage needs of the public service desks in other departments. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or GED equivalent and two (2) years related professional experience; teaching and/or library experience preferred. Ability to work with the public of varied backgrounds and ages. Must use tact, courtesy and good judgement when communicating with co-workers and the public. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and sitting. Ability to shelve library materials as needed. Must be able to lift library materials including books, AV equipment, program materials and maneuver loaded book carts weighing approximately fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds. Prior library experience helpful but not necessary. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.

A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Hiring Salary Range: $27,684.80 – $31,200.00 annually depending on qualifications.
