Area residents can receive free help with their taxes at several Charleston County Public Library branches through a project coordinated with the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program, S.C. Thrive and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). For additional tax assistance, you may contact these organizations directly: VITA at 843-769-8173 or 2-1-1, AARP at 1-888-227-7669 or S.C. Thrive at 800.726.8774. 

Tax assistance is available at the following CCPL branches:  

Otranto Road Regional Library
Every Thursday starting Feb. 1 through April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
First come, first served basis. The last person will be accepted for tax preparation assistance at 1:30 p.m.
S.C. Thrive 

Hurd/St. Andrews Regional Library
AARP Free Income Tax Preparation
Every Friday starting Feb. 2 through April 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Receive free income tax preparation and electronic filing assistance from AARP volunteers. A current picture ID and Social Security card are required, along with the Social Security cards of any dependents. First come, first served, with the last person accepted at 1 p.m.

Main Library
Every Monday starting Feb. 5 through April 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Free income tax preparation and electronic filing assistance. A current picture ID and Social Security card are required, along with the Social Security cards of any dependents. Assistance will be provided first come, first served, with priority given to seniors. 
AARP

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday starting Jan. 23 through April 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Receive assistance with ​​​​​free income tax preparation and electronic filing. A current picture ID and Social Security card are required, along with the Social Security cards of any dependents. Assistance will be provided first come, first served.
VITA

Mount Pleasant Library

Every Monday and Friday starting Feb. 2 through April 13 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Exception: On Feb. 16 and 19, tax preparers will not be available.
Free income tax preparation and electronic filing assistance. A current picture ID and Social Security card are required, along with the Social Security cards of any dependents. Assistance will be provided first come, first served, with priority given to seniors. The last person will be accepted at 4 p.m. A signup sheet will be posted on auditorium door starting at 10:00 a.m.

Every Saturday starting Jan. 27 through April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Receive assistance with ​​​​​free income tax preparation and electronic filing. A current picture ID and Social Security card are required, along with the Social Security cards of any dependents. Assistance will be provided first come, first served. Please note that this will be in the library workroom next to the Holds area instead of the Auditorium.
VITA

John's Island Library
Every Saturday starting Feb. 3 to April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Receive free income tax preparation and electronic filing assistance. A current picture ID and Social Security card are required, along with the Social Security cards of any dependents. First come, first served, with the last person accepted at 1 p.m. Assistance in Spanish is available.
