CHARLESTON,S.C. - SC Works provides a wealth of resources to job seekers and employers alike. SC Works is a partner of the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SC DEW) as well as the American Job Center Network. Much of their work is enacted under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, or WIOA. The WIOA was created to improve our nation’s workforce by offering education, training, and connections to all citizens, most especially those who have experienced barriers to employment. They offer in-person services, which may be scheduled at their OneStop Centers by appointment. Additionally, many of their valuable resources can be accessed through their website

Through this organization, individuals have access to a variety of tools and support, regardless of where they may be in their job-seeking journey. Staff members are thoroughly trained to serve people from all walks of life, no matter their status or history. Sadly, many good, hard working people experience barriers to employment. These job seekers may have a difficult time securing positions due to biases and lack of access to the appropriate education and resources. Such barriers include: having a criminal record, being a senior citizen, being an English language learner, being a veteran, as well as those experiencing homelessness, pregnancy, or disability.  SC Works offers access to Adult Education, GED preparation, career assessments & exploration tools. Staffers can also help you determine if you qualify for federal grant money for Trident Technical College. For those further along in their quest, resume guidance and skills workshops are available.  Even local job listings are provided. SC Works hosts a variety of job fairs, although all hiring events are on hold due to COVID-19.  This organization also assists with unemployment insurance questions along with counseling services regarding career exploration and self-advocacy.

Employers can also benefit from the services offered by SC Works.  Customized, on the job training, recruiting tools, and downsizing guidance are offered to help companies quickly address worrisome problems that accompany major layoffs. SC Works administers WorkKeys Assessment testing and detailed information about labor market statistics, wages, and predictions.

SC Works is an invaluable job resource for South Carolinians. From beginning to end, this organization provides the information and encouragement you need to succeed.
