CHARLESTON, S.C. - Are you still actively searching for a job? Trying to hone those interview skills? Are you updating your resume and need some tips? Changing careers? Maybe looking for a seasonal employment opportunity?  If it is the latter, be sure to check out our previous post detailing local jobs available just in time for you to earn extra holiday cash. 

In the meantime, take a look at these available online resources that can help you in your job search, under the Career and Education Resources tab on the Charleston County Public Library website. Just start your search by clicking the Research tab near the top right side of the main page. From there, you can look for the aforementioned tab to access the databases.

Below is a list of several of those resources and what services they provide:

  1. Gale Presents: Peterson's Career Prep, formerly Career Transitions, this is an online career guidance resource designed to support a variety of job seekers during the search process from beginning to end. Job seekers from all career stages can explore careers, create resumes, and search for and apply for jobs using Indeed.com. Features of Gale Presents: Peterson’s Career Prep include: interactive interview simulator, career overview videos, advice from career experts, resume and cover letter creation templates, information on training programs and online education courses, information on job descriptions and salaries, job search options, and in-demand career discovery tools.
  2. Learning Express Library  provides interactive tools to help learners of all ages reach their personal, academic, and professional goals. The easy-to-navigate platform provides a comprehensive collection of tutorials, test preparation and practice materials, and other skill-building resources. Subjects include: GED, college admissions, and U.S. citizenship test preparation; job searching, resume writing, and interviewing; and improving reading, math, and core computer and business software skills. Learning Express Library also has an area devoted to resources for Spanish speakers. New users must create an account with a valid email address and password.
  3. Lynda.com, which is now LinkedIn Learning, is an online learning platform that helps account holders learn business, software, technology, and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals. CCPL account holders have access to the Lynda.com video library of high-quality courses taught by industry experts. Subjects include game design, educational technology, content marketing, project management, UX, and web design.
  4. Vocational & Career Collection provides access to trade and industry related periodicals. Vocational & Career Collection is designed for vocational and technical libraries servicing high schools, community colleges, trade institutions and public libraries. The collection provides full text coverage for nearly 340 trade and industry related periodicals including American Machinist, Pediatric Nursing, Wireless Week, Drug Store News, Reeves Journal, Hotel and Motel Management, Restaurant Business, Advertising Age, and many more. In addition to the full text, indexing and abstracts are provided for over 600 journals. The majority of full text titles are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color. Full text information in this database dates as far back as 1985.

All of these resources are accessible in-person at the library and remotely.  You will need your CCPL library card and your PIN number to access these databases.  Take some time and preview these databases.  You will find that the information provided will benefit your job-seeking efforts.   As always, our library staff is also here to help you navigate these resources and help you prepare your job readiness.
