Crews begin clearing land at Wando Mount Pleasant site

December 6, 2017

There's progress in Mount Pleasant! Crews began clearing the land in Carolina Park for the new Wando Mount Pleasant Library. Clearing the land will likely take another week, and then crews will spend time grading the land and marking it for construction. Construction should begin in early 2018.

Town of Mount Pleasant reviews permits for new library

September 26, 2017

The Wando Mount Pleasant design is in the final permitting process with the Town of Mt. Pleasant. Site work will begin as soon as the required permits are received.

Design under review

April 4, 2017

Representatives from Charleston County, CCPL and MB Kahn were in the process of reviewing the culmination of the design development for the new Mt. Pleasant branch. Once the review was finalized and cost estimates were approved, the team moved into construction documentation, which is the final stage of design. MB Kahn narrowed the groundbreaking window to late summer 2017.
Tentative timeline set to break ground

March 7, 2017

CCPL set a tentative timeline to breaking ground on the new Mt. Pleasant branch this summer. The other locations will follow with staggered start dates to evenly distribute the work flow amongst the design and construction teams.
Winter 2017 spent in design development

February 6, 2017

The Mt. Pleasant design team spent January and early February working through the design development stage. Charleston County and CCPL were also in the process of reviewing the culmination of their work, which is a substantial assessment that took approximately one to two months to complete.
Internal schematic review wraps up

January 5, 2017

Internal review of the schematic design proposal for the new Mt. Pleasant location was nearly completed. The design team was released to begin the design development stage at the same time. CCPL looked to schedule a community meeting to discuss this location in January or February.
Design team releases possible schematics to CCPL

The new Mt. Pleasant location design team created multiple schematic proposals for review by CCPL, and fine-tuned the possible designs to meet the specific needs of the local community.
