A resident of Charleston since 1965, Larry Gale is the Data Architect and Senior Systems Engineer on the Medical University of South Carolina Enterprise Data Warehouse team. Gale also holds a Masters degree in Biomedical Computing from MUSC. He has been an Information Technology professional for 36 years, and holds the CISSP and CPHIMS certifications. He has given presentations at national and regional conferences in the Healthcare Information Technology field and has been the lead author on an article in the Journal of Healthcare Information Management. His professional work in Information Technology has included Trident Technical College, the College of Charleston, the Charleston Naval Shipyard, the Charleston Naval Weapons Station, the US Navy Mine Warfare Command, Biometric Solutions Group, WareOnEarth and SPAWAR Charleston. He has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his professional career.
He is also an award-winning professional photographer, serving as the photography juror for the Charleston Artist Guild, and has had photographs displayed in juried exhibitions in New York and throughout South Carolina. He has presented digital photography workshops and portfolio reviews with the Mount Pleasant Artist Guild, Community of I’On Artists, and the Charleston Artist Guild. He has also served as a judge in both arts and music for the Charleston County School District, as well as serving on the board of the Charleston Community Band.
He is also a professional musician, having performed with artists including Liberace, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the North Charleston Pops, as well as assorted jazz and rock bands.
He has formerly worked for Tom Basler, Director of Libraries for MUSC, in support of the Environmental Hazards Assessment Program (EHAP) at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has also collected and helped organize the Gale and Gaskin family papers and donated those to the Waring Historical Library at MUSC. With his wife, Margaret McNab Gale, he has done presentations on South Carolina history at the Mount Pleasant Regional Library and the Village Library in Mount Pleasant.
In 2018, he was appointed by the members of Charleston County Council to the Charleston County Library Board of Trustees.
With his wife Peggy, he owns and operates two small businesses: Perceptual Systems, an Information Technology and Security Consulting firm, and Larry Gale Photography.
