About the Listeners Program

Charleston County Public Library’s Summer Reading for Pre-Readers helps to introduce early literacy skills to learners ages 0-3. To participate, simply register and complete the early literacy activity missions with your child online. There you will find 25 activities to do with your child. Then just log your early literacy missions online. If you do not have access to the internet, please download the Early Literacy Activity Missions Sheet or call your local CCPL branch for assistance with logging.

Perhaps you will “Read wordless books with your child.” Or “Go on a sensory walk together,” talking about what you see, hear, feel and smell. You might even “Share a story about your childhood.” Whatever you choose to do will place an emphasis on what your child needs to know before he or she can actually start reading. That is why this is referred to as the “Pre-Readers Program.”

When you have completed at least 23 missions, you can collect your prize: a board book, a shaker egg, and an activity scarf for you and your child!
