      This article discusses the author's understanding of the market for utopian and dystopian literature with particular reference to her story "A Tour Guide in Utopia." This story, which was written to order for the magazine "The Bulletin," is concerned with the difficulties faced by a representative of the present day charged with educating a visitor from the past. Issues relating to utopianism during the 1990s are addressed.
