    • Abstract:
The article presents information about a new student union and recreation complex at the Berkeley High School in Berkeley, California, built by ELS Architecture & Urban Design. The new complex extends 600 ft. along the campus' sidewalk edge with a quad that was first envisioned in the school's original 1930s master plan. Grafted from a minimal palette of off-white and grey, the concrete and steel elevations break the massive structure into four approachable spaces. Every part of the new structure remains well used. Yet perhaps the busiest space is the new student union.
