This article focuses on the book "The Remains of the Day," by Kazuo Ishiguro. This is Ishiguro's third novel. It recently won the Booker Prize in Great Britain, incisively examines the heavy price of human servitude. lshiguro's writing is subtle and controlled, skillfully pulling readers into perceptions of the world while allowing them to see that those perceptions. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Ishiguro chose not to write an autobiographical account based on his experience as a Japanese in Britain. Instead, he created a character whose personality and language are perfectly British. By contrast, Ishiguro's first two novels take place in Japan, where he has not been since childhood.
