    • Abstract:
The article contends that romantic-suspense fiction (RS) are read by women in the U.S. as a kind of chaste and courtly pornography. Most RS books are formularized, transparent and utterly implausible. There several permutaitons in the RS category, but most are gothic. Typically, the heroine is a newly orphaned young woman. It is based on the presumption that chastity is a state of erotic anticipation. As a specimen of pornography, these fiction books violate the literary and intellectual canon.
