    • Abstract:
The article focuses on an author Nicholasa Mohr. In many ways, the life of New York Puerto Rican author Nicholasa Mohr, born in 1938 in Spanish Harlem, mirrors the experiences of her fictional characters. While not strictly autobiographical, Mohr's work is intimately tied to her own working-class Puerto Rican childhood at the height of the Puerto Rican migration to New York City during the 1940s and 1950s. Mohr's work is often noted for its thematic emphasis on the everyday struggles and achievements of working-class Puerto Ricans, especially women. Some of her works include "Nilda," "In Nueva York," and "Rituals of Survival: A Woman's Portfolio."
