The article focuses on the efforts of Dick Brown to revive EDS Corp. and to help defend the United States against cyberterrorism. The 40-year-old company is steeped in a heritage of security, some would say paranoia. This legacy may be critical to the continued success of Dick Brown's impressive revival of the $22 billion lion (sales) EDS--and to his own reputation as a turnaround wizard. Each day EDS battles 650 attempted break-ins and three new viruses at the complex of 50,000 servers it runs for 2,500 clients and 3 million users. Should an epidemic spread inside the firm, it could wreak havoc on the Immigration and Naturalization Service's database, disrupt Continental Airlines' flight operations or destroy Medicare records.
