A study of the effects of a microteaching-based methodology on student teaching competence. (English)
    • Abstract:
The main goal of the teacher training university program is to prepare qualified teachers who provide quality education services. Teaching competence is the professional knowledge, ability, and attitude to plan, organize, and evaluate the results of the training. In this article, we aim to study the impact of microteaching-based methodology on the development of student teaching competence. To measure students’ teaching competences, an online self-assessment questionnaire was developed based on the list of “Competences Required for Effective Teaching in the 21st Century" (2012). The research employed the "snowball" sampling method and some 28 junior students majoring in Biology Education participated as the experimental group, while 74 junior and senior students majoring in teaching IT, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Pre-School Education, and Mathematics at MNUE (Mongolian National University of Education) were taken as the control group. Research data were analyzed using mathematical statistics. The null hypothesis of “no difference” in self-assessment of teaching competence between experimental and control group students was rejected by t test (mean t value =2.28; P < 0.05). Also, whether there is a difference between the self-evaluation of the experimental group and the self-evaluation of students of other professions (a total of 6 professions each) in the one-factor analysis of variance, three knowledges out of a total of 12 knowledges (average F value =2.89, P<0.05); by two abilities out of 13 abilities (mean F value =2.81, P<0.05); and differed or outperformed in three out of 10 approaches (mean t value = 3.12; P < 0.05). According to the results of the research, this version of microteaching-based methodology has a positive effect on the student's teaching ability [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
